Chiswick House
Chiswick House
Chiswick House is a major example of a neo-Palladian villa, built for the Earl of Burlington in 1725–9. Both the house and its estate were enlarged by Burlington’s heirs, the dukes of Devonshire.
Of modest proportions by aristocratic standards, Chiswick House’s splendid decor and ornate ceilings have been faithfully restored by English Heritage and the property is nowadays run by the Chiswick House and Gardens Trust.
A £12 million restoration of the gardens was unveiled in 2010, when a stylish new café opened in the grounds.
