Bar Italia

Nuggets – bite size chunks of London

Bar Italia

Bar Italia is a compact Italian café located at 22 Frith Street, established in 1949 by Lou and Caterina Polledri and run today by their grandchildren. It is open 22 hours a day, from 7am to 5am. Travel guides have called it ‘a cornerstone of Soho nightlife’ and ‘the queen of café culture in Soho’.

In January 1926 John Logie Baird (1888–1946) demonstrated his ‘televisor’ to members of the Royal Institution in his laboratory above what is now the Bar Italia.
